Fitness age calculator
How old is your aerobic fitness? Estimate your VO2max with a quick test and see the age it matches.
Most accurate for runners: a recent all-out race of 5 km to half marathon.
for men aged 30–39 · Excellent starts at 48.3
Estimates have an error of several points. Compare with the norms by age.
Why fitness age matters
Cardiorespiratory fitness is one of the strongest predictors of long-term health in large studies — see VO2max and longevity. A fitness age below your real age is a good sign; above it is a reason to start training, and the gains come quickly.
Frequently asked questions
What is fitness age?
Fitness age is the age at which your measured or estimated VO2max would be typical. If you are 45 with the VO2max of an average 30-year-old, your fitness age is about 30.
How is it calculated here?
We estimate your VO2max from the test you choose, then find the age at which that value sits in the middle of the age-and-sex norms used on our VO2max chart. It follows the idea of the HUNT study's fitness age, but it is a simpler approximation.
Can I lower my fitness age?
Yes. VO2max responds to training at any age: regular aerobic exercise plus a weekly interval session typically raises it within weeks, which lowers your fitness age.
